Remote Online Notary Versus Traditional Notary

Written By: Communications Intern Lara Zerkdi

  1. Location

With a remote notary, you can have your documents notarized remotely from anywhere with internet access. Whereas a traditional notary meets you in person.

  1. Technology

With a remote online notary, the signer must have internet access, as the documents are digital files and the session is recorded and stored. A traditional notary uses physical documentation.

  1. Stamp

As a remote online notary handles the process entirely virtually, there will be an electronic seal, unlike a traditional notary, which uses a physical stamp or embosser.

  1. Identity Verification

A traditional notary will verify the signer’s identity through an acceptable form of ID, such as a state-issued driver’s license, state-issued identification card, passport, or a US Alien registration card. With a remote online notary, the signer must take a photo of themselves and scan and upload a copy of their ID.

  1. Document Security

An online remote notary uses multi-factor identity verification techniques to protect the signer’s documents from fraud and adds an extra layer of security. When your documents are notarized by a traditional notary your documents will all be physical copies.
